Selena Gomez Was the Inspiration Behind Charlie Puth’s Song “How Long”

  • by

This story is coming out just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Two years after Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez collaborated on the hit song, “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” the truth is coming out.  Fans speculated all along that Charlie and Selena were more than just friends, however that was profusely denied…until now.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the “How Long” singer confirmed he did indeed date Gomez.

Selena was quoted in 2016 in an interview with E! News saying, “We’re not dating.  That’s for sure.”  However, now it sounds as though the short lived romance with the “Wolves” singer was quite impressionable on Puth.

He told Billboard:

I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like [‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’] can come across as real is if there’s something else going on behind the scenes. And that’s what was happening [with Gomez].

Puth went on to explain, “Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up. I’m trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn’t like I was the only person on her mind. And I think I knew that going in — what I was getting myself into.

This could very well be in reference to her on-again off-again flame, Justin Bieber.

Many fans speculate his recent hit songs, “Attention” and “How Long” could be about personal experiences.  Charlie hints at this in this new Billboard interview.

[‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ is] about a particular moment in my life, when someone very close to me wanted the attention of somebody else. When I found that out and we ended it, I might have done some shady things too, and she might have asked me, ‘How long has this been going on?’

In a recent interview about Valentine’s Day, Charlie said he has always been alone for V-Day and figures that won’t change.  He will be eating in a NYC apartment with one of his friends this holiday.

At least he got a hit song out of this breakup!
