John Stamos has a new gig to add to his resume: American Idol mentor. The former Full/Fuller House star’s latest show Big Shot is already a hit for Disney Plus; now, John’s own Disney fanatics could come in handy. John Stamos’ Next Gig: American Idol Mentor
According to ABC, “To kick off the night, the results of the Comeback show will be announced. Then, after the top nine travel to Walt Disney World for a one-on-one session with a celebrity mentor and inspiration from the Most Magical Place on Earth, the season’s top 10 contestants, including the Comeback winner, will perform a song from the renowned Disney songbook in hopes of securing America’s real-time vote. The top seven finalists will be revealed at the end of the episode.”
While the celebrity mentor hasn’t been named yet, nor has John’s episode date been confirmed, it seems like it’d be a match made in heaven. Disney World and John Stamos? What more could you ask for? Plus, it’s not the first time John’s been a part of a musical show at Disney World.
“We did the video at Disney World, at the Grand Floridian,” John said of his 1988 cameo in the Beach Boys’ “Kokomo” music video. He told Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show that the Beach Boys were his inspiration, and he never imagined meeting them, “let alone playing with them.” It’s been over 34 years, and he’s continued to play songs with the band for special performances.
John says he’s excited to be on American Idol this spring. He asked Kelly for any advice on being a mentor on the show, and she of course had some wise words. “A lot of people can sing, but not a lot of people can move people or touch people,” she told him.
What she meant by that was that it’s good John’s an actor, because it helps to emote while you’re songwriting or performing. Stamos agreed, saying it’s all about “selling a song.” Check out the full clip below:
As we mentioned earlier, John is a big Disney fan, as is his wife Caitlin McHugh. They are parents of 3-year-old Billy Stamos, and have taken him to Disney World in Florida and Disney Land in California – it’s definitely a family affair!
