His name is Austin Giorgio and he has grabbed the attention of Blake Shelton on NBC’s The Voice along with millions of fans who follow the show. His style is reminiscent of the Rat Pack era, a time of casino style entertainers, dressed to the nines with a swagger and voices to match.
In his most recent performance on The Voice, he brought an old Nat King Cole number, “Almost Like Being in Love” to the Knockouts. In case you’re not familiar with The Voice, the Knockouts are a level of the show where two performers on a coach’s team compete against one another. One singer will be saved and one will have to go home unless saved by a coach. Each coach only has one save so it’s unusual for that to happen. He performed against Spensha Baker, an alumni of Star Search, and Blake Shelton ended up choosing Spensha over Austin. The audience was surprised as they prepared for the jazzman and crooner to go home.
Blake Shelton decided against that possibility though and promptly saved Austin Giorgio. An extremely shocked Giorgio was thrilled to learn of the save and continue on.
I bet y’all thought I was going to let him walk out the door… NOPE! You all know how I feel about Austin… I left a bunch of phone messages about it #VoiceKnockouts

We know your dad sings Sinatra, can you tell us a little more about your family? Do you have siblings?
He does sing Sinatra. He enjoys singing and has done some big things. He doesn’t just sing Sinatra but sings other music like Van Morrison. I always had music in my house growing up.
For siblings, I have one sister who is 24 years old and is getting married soon. I don’t know why he’s marrying her, she’s crazy (brotherly love). Now I think maybe it’s him that is crazy!
How would you describe your personal style?
I like to wear looks like a Nautica V-Neck sweater over a white button down with jeans and nice leather shoes.

You seem very comfortable in front of the camera, have you always been that way? What do you attribute it to?
I am, I was pretty outgoing growing up, but funny enough I had stage fright, particularly with public speaking and I really wanted to conquer that. So when I was in school and we had to give speeches, I would volunteer to go first so I could conquer those nerves. It helped!
How did you become interested in jazz and standard music?
I paid close attention to people like Harry Connick Jr and Michael Bublé. I was reading about them and saw how their careers were built. There’s the showman like Michael Bublé and the musician like Harry Connick Jr. Most think I’m like the showman, but I’m really like both. It was good to see the timeline of their careers and where they were in their early 20’s to see how I fit in now.

When you go to a restaurant, what is your go to food to order on the menu?
Well, it’s usually at an Italian restaurant and I like to order lasagna and gnocchi. I also like meat and potatoes too though.
Do you answer or read the messages you receive on social media?
I do. I get a lot, and I like to make it a routine where I sit down one day of the week for a few hours and go through about 100 messages and respond to them. I don’t just write a few words, I try to write a few lines in responding to people.
How would your friends describe you?
My friends barely even know I sing, I just started about a year ago. They would probably say “super hyper focused.” I don’t just start learning about something, I eat, sleep, and breathe it. When they describe me they would probably say “working.” I wasn’t the type to party. I was always working, studying in school and working on my business and making money.
What is your nationality?
My family actually just found this out! I’m 84% Sicilian Italian, and the rest is Ukrainian and Irish.
What is your day like on The Voice?
It pretty much goes like this:
Rehearsals with the band
Wardrobe
Show tapings
Interviews
Social MediaYou mentioned on The Voice that Blake Shelton is the same behind closed doors as he is on camera. How so?
He is really such a regular guy. You could see him in the supermarket and say “Hey Blake!” and he will say hi to you. He is just as he seems on the show, down to earth.
Do you play any instruments?
Yes, I play the piano and am learning to play the ukulele.
Were there any audition experiences you had on the Voice that weren’t aired on TV?
There were tons of auditions and even some psychological tests we went through that you don’t see on the show. It was a great experience.

Were you a fan of the show before you decided to audition?
I watched some of the episodes of the show but didn’t watch entire seasons.
Who on the show would you say you’ve become friends with so far?
There are so many awesome people. We all spend months living in a hotel together so we become pretty tight. I can’t say too many names as I don’t want to give anything away. I’ll say I’m friends with everyone on Team Blake.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories at the Voice you can share with us?
There are always funny things happening. I can’t come up with a specific story but I’m starting to Vlog and I went up to a couple of people on the streets in LA and sang to them. It was all documented on video.
Watch Now!
What is next for you?
No matter what happens with the show, I plan to come back to the east coast and give some concerts along the perimeter of the northeast including the Great Lakes and Albany, down to Pennsylvania.
