GENERATION GAP

ABC continues its rollout of summer game shows with Generation Gap, hosted by Kelly Ripa. The new series is a comedy game show where contestants are challenged to answer pop culture trivia questions from each other’s generations. It’s a fun time for all ages, and there may even be celebrity guests that join in on the fun too! We have even more details below, including what else you can expect, information on host Kelly Ripa, and the premiere date.

What to Expect from Generation Gap

According to ABC, “teams of seniors and juniors are challenged to answer questions about pop culture from each other’s generations in the series premiere of Generation Gap on ABC. Ryan Seacrest makes a special surprise appearance during the ‘Who Am I’ challenge, and the winning team’s chance at a bonus prize is left up to their youngest family member in the ‘Toddler’s Choice.’” The series premiere is titled “To Infinity Stones and Beyond!” It’s a nod to the current Marvel universe and the older Toy Story franchise.

The show’s official Instagram account captioned this post with: “Meet the families playing in the very first episode of #GenerationGap! Are you ready to play along?”

Emmy Award winning producers Jimmy Kimmel and Mark Burnett are bringing the show to life, and will serve as executive producers. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos will also be EPs under their production company Milojo. This 2022 version is a remake of the 1969 original, which was hosted by Dennis Wholey and later Jack Barry. The same premise of the younger generation answering nostalgic pop culture trivia, and the older generation trying to figure out newer references still applies in the Kimmel produced show.

Meet Host Kelly Ripa

Kelly Ripa is currently co-hosting Live with Kelly & Ryan, a popular daytime talk show. She decided to join Generation Gap as its host because she really enjoys the bit from Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, (also known as “Generation Gap”) where older and younger contestants try to answer a variety of pop culture questions.

Kelly’s also intrigued by what her parents and her kids know or don’t know about each other’s generations. Plus, she and Jimmy go way back – it’s a pretty perfect pair for her to host and him to produce.

She and husband Mark Consuelos met on set of the soap opera All My Children. They were married in 1996 and have 3 children together: Michael, Lola and Joaquin. The family still lives in New York City. Aside from her soap opera days, fans may also know Kelly from Hope & Faith, a show she co-starred in with Faith Ford.

Kelly’s mother’s name is Esther and she was a homemaker when Kelly was growing up. Her father, Joseph, has served as the Democratic County Clerk for Camden County, New Jersey since 2009. Kelly has a sister named Linda, who is a children’s book author. Ripa is the first in her family to become an actress.

When does Generation Gap premiere?
