It’s time for another round of auditions on everyone’s favorite singing competition show. On Sunday’s all-new episode of American Idol, judge Katy Perry calls Hollywood hopeful Sophia Wackerman a star. Keep reading below for even more details on Sophia and Katy’s comments!
Who is Sophia Wackerman?
You may be wondering: who is Sophia Wackerman, and what made her want to audition for American Idol? Turns out, music’s in her family! Her dad’s a drummer who has played for James Taylor, and even toured with Frank Zappa. Sophia’s late mom used to sing in the Moody Blues, and was a background vocalist for Belinda Carlisle.
How’d her audition for Idol go?
All three judges were blown away by Sophia’s rendition of “Water” by Bishop Briggs. She even played the piano accompaniment! Idol judge Lionel Richie said that Sophia’s “distinct tone” will serve her well; and Katy Perry wholeheartedly agreed.
Katy then did something surprising: she actually brought Sophia outside where the rest of the hopefuls were, to show them that she was a true star in the making. She called Sophia’s voice her “instant identity.”
The star comment was also a slight play off of Sophia’s mother’s last name of Star – Katy even told her she should consider it for a stage name!
