American Idol has a special episode planned for Mother’s Day this Sunday. On May 9, the top 7 contestants will perform songs dedicated to their moms. In addition to those performances, each contestant will sing a rendition of a Coldplay song, as lead singer Chris Martin will be mentoring them. Chris and his band will also debut their new song “Higher Power” on Sunday’s show. So, who’s still in the running to be the next American Idol? Find out the top 7 contestants below.
Who’s in American Idol‘s Season 19 Top 7?
There are 7 people remaining in the competition. They are:
- Chayce Beckham
- Caleb Kennedy
- Grace Kinstler
- Casey Bishop
- Willie Spence
- Hunter Metts
- Arthur Gunn (voted in from the comeback contestants episode)
Some of the contestants – like Caleb Kennedy and Hunter Metts, for example – are playing original songs for their Mother’s Day performance. Others like Wille Spence and Arthur Gunn will sing classics. As far as Coldplay songs go, tracks like “Yellow” or “Fix You” are always lovely, so perhaps the contestants will be singing fan-favorites like those.
Last week, we said goodbye to Deshawn Goncalves, Cassandra Coleman, and Alyssa Wray. But, the trio remain supportive of their former Idol contestants, leaving nice comments and encouraging words on their social media.
Speaking of social media, a few of the Top 7 performers have used their Instagram platforms to share some of their feelings about making it to the next level of American Idol. Willie Spence wrote that “this is really Unbelievable! I’m just honored & grateful to have come this far!”
Hunter Metts told his followers something he’s learned on this journey so far. He said: “Above anything else this has taught me to dream bigger and run as far and as fast as I can with this. Here’s to @americanidol ‘s top 7. Thank you.”
