Pop singer Taylor Swift performed her newly released single Shake It Off at the VMA’S last Sunday. The 24-year-old singer’s performance at the 2014 VMA’s was introduced by good friend and Royals singer, Lorde.
“On the surface, this next performer and I are nothing alike,” said Lorde. “She’s tall, blonde, and doesn’t wear this much black. But we both base our art on the kinds of things that delight, terrify and confound us. And for that, I’m grateful she exists. I’m so proud to introduce – at the beginning of her brand new era – my friend, Taylor Swift!”
The song began with Taylor laying on stage wearing a silver, sparkly crop top and matching high-waisted shorts. Her outfit looked gorgeous and unique, allowing Taylor to stand out from the crowd. The beat of the song brought a powerful vibe to the stage and audience members cheered Taylor on. She was surrounded on stage by male dancers, all wearing black tuxedos and dancing around her. Her performance pumped up the audience and her fans were shaking their hands in the air.
The atmosphere of the performance was rocking as bright yellow lights lit up the stage. The dancers were not lacking in energy and performed powerful stunt routines next to Taylor. A ginormous 1989 sign lip up in light pink colors while carousel-like circles were spinning on the sides of the stage.
The backup singers were shown wearing matching dark silver, sparkly outfits. Several female saxophone players joined Taylor on stage, wearing the exact same outfits at the backup singers . Her killer dance moves and uplift attitude brought the entire audience on their feet, many joining in and dancing with her! Miley Cyrus was shown smiling during Swift’s performance, perhaps remembering her moment on the VMA stage last year.
At one point during the song, Taylor climbed up on the giant 1989 platform, while her dancers were offering to catch her from below. Taylor made a joke about people getting bitten by snakes during the VMA’s (referring to the incident of the time Nicki Minaj’s dancer was bitten by a snake) and chose to take the stairs instead. Several celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez and Ariana Grande were shown laughing during this cheeky stunt made by Taylor.
Towards the end, the stage kept being shone on by purple and blue lights from different angles, totally bringing a rocking atmosphere to the performance. Everyone looked pumped and the fans just couldn’t get enough of Taylor!
The song’s lyrics are super catchy and it was hard not to join in as Taylor sang the chorus of Shake It Off – “Cuz the players gonna play play play play play, And the haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate, Baby I’m just gonna shake shake shake shake shake!”For anyone who has heard this song, you are likely to agree that it is hard to get the chorus out of your head!
Shake It Off was released on August 18, 2014, receiving mostly positive reviews from music critics. It debuted at # 9 on the Adult Pop Songs chat. Although the song is not Swift’s usual country pop music, it does not lack in style or originality! The song was inspired by the 1980’s pop music and has a retro feel. Its catchy repetitive lyrics and uptempo beat is the perfect song to rock out to!

Taylor commented, “I’ve had every part of my life dissected—my choices, my actions, my words, my body, my style, my music. When you live your life under that kind of scrutiny, you can either let it break you, or you can get really good at dodging punches. And when one lands, you know how to deal with it. And I guess the way that I deal with it is to shake it off.”
Before the VMA’s, Taylor Swift rocked out in a blue alphabet-printed jumpsuit, posing for the paparazzi and waving to her fans. Her look was flawless and she was able to spotlight the cameras on her a second time during her unforgettable VMA performance.
With the release of her single last week and her VMA performance, this month has certainly been busy for the young star. Not to mention that her fifth album 1989 is scheduled to be released on October 27, 2014! The album has been produced by Max Martin and Taylor Swift herself, being her first ever pop album. We are sure that this one will peak high on the billboard charts and top her previous album Red that debuted at # 1 on the Billboard 200. Taylor has also dropped hints that she is planning a world tour after the release of 1989 to promote her album. This is certainly a busy year for the singer and we wish her lots of luck every step of the way!
