The ‘Havana‘ singer made a $10,000 donation to the GoFundMe campaign of Tanitoluwa Adewumi. According to Billboard.com, Adewumi escaped northern Nigeria in 2017 with his family due to “terrorist violence inflicted by Boko Haram on Christians in the region.”

Today Adewumi and his family currently reside at a homeless shelter in Manhattan, New York. The GoFundMe campaign is to help his family find a home so he can continue purse his passion for chess.

The Chess Champion first started playing the game a year ago when a part-time teacher waived his fee to the elementary school’s chess club. Since The New York Times covered Adewumi journey, the GoFundMe campaign has surpassed it’s goal of $50,000.

The sentiment that “talent is universal but opportunity is not.” resonated with Cabello. She encouraged her Instagram followers to spread his story and help his family.
