Interview :: Austin Miller
You
might recognize Austin as a potential Danny from NBC's Grease "You're
the One That I Want" reality series that aired in the winter of '07.
Now this guy is ready to branch out and show the world he is a triple
threat. Find out about Austin's soap opera past and New York
City
future right here on Feeling the Vibe.
What
is the
first thing that comes to mind when you hear:
Days
of Our
Lives
- I had the
most fussed with
hair on that show.
It was long and blond and flat ironed and all sorts of
mess
Grease
- I
am so glad
it's over. That
chapter of my life is closed, I
think. The show is
open, I've been to
see it, I chopped all my hair off so that I am virtually unrecognizeable
New
York City -
Love it,
every minute, every
day. I even like crowded 1 trains.
It's
part of the experience. I
am a
germ-a-phobe, so I am constantly presented with new challenges.
California
- Sitting
on the
freeway. Spending
more than you make. Your maid drives a nicer car than you. How do say, "Come pick me
up at the
Saddle Ranch" in Spanish
Myspace –
The great American Time Waster.
The way for pedophiles
to find
their
victims world-wide! I
try to personally
respond to every fan letter. It's
a job
some days.
Mall - The Grove. In
LA. It's this ridiculous
theme-ey mall. It
is next to CBS where
Grease shot. I
lived in LA till last
fall, and have been back and forth A LOT in the last year.
Quickfacts:
Birthdate:
June 7th
Height:
6’
Hometown:
Alvin, Texas
Siblings:
4 sisters
When was the last time you:
Checked your
email – Minutes ago.
My
manager is always sending me something.
Called your
family – Day before yesterday.
Watched
yourself on Youtube - I don't watch myself on
youtube. It kills
my soul.
Saw a movie
– Oh, boy...been awhile. The germs, ya
know. I saw "Music
&
Lyrics" on my flight home from Italy a couple of weeks ago
Texted
somebody – About an hour ago
Went swimming
– Monday at some lake
Q&A
It
says on your Myspace that you’re in New York. What brought
you out here?
I was
over LA, so I let my house there go, and I came to
NY. Then Grease
happened, and I spent 5
months out of the year that I have lived in NY back in LA. Back and forth, back and
forth.
You
stood out to us on the show. How
did
you find out about the Grease auditions?
AM:
My agents had an
appointment for me for the role of Kenicke, which I played in the
National
Tour. After the audition, they told me I wasn't "blue collar" enough,
but
asked me to come back and try for the Danny spot on the reality show
You
were on Days of Our Lives for a year or so.
When exactly was that? What was
that
experience like?
AM:
It was 2000-2001 It was a place to learn, and I made some great friends.
Would
you ever take a role on another soap opera again?
AM:
If the right thing came along. One can't rule out anything!
How
would you compare a day’s work at a soap opera vs. Broadway?
AM:
Both are tough. However, I say very little is as physically demanding
as
churning out 8 shows a week on a Production Contract schedule.
You
look like
you workout. What
is your typical routine like?
AM:
I was on contract with Speedo, Ballys, a bunch of things that required
fitness
because I was always
running around being photographed half naked! I lift 3 days a week, and
run and
go to dance class.
What
was it
like growing up in Texas?
AM:
Idyllic, I think. I love Texas. It has a freedom that people not from
there
don't understand.
Any
future shows starring Austin Miller coming up in the future?
AM:
Tully in No Particular Order, off-Broadway this fall as part of the
NYMF
Festival.
Thanks to Austin for taking
the time to do this interview with us at Feeling the Vibe we're looking
forward to seeing you front and center on stage very soon!
